Changing Soft Parts & Shoe Assemblies

HYCOA / JR-33 6-Way Transfer Valve — based on the official JR33 IOM and 6-Way repair instructions. Follow each step in sequence for a safe, correct rebuild.

Before You Start

Shut down the system, isolate the valve, and relieve ALL pressure before removing any parts.

Safety First

Installation & Operation Manual

The following procedures are drawn directly from the Northeast Controls JR33 Operation and Maintenance Manual. Follow all steps carefully and ensure the system is fully depressurized before beginning any work.

Section 1

Internal Stack Removal Procedure

Fully loosen the "T" Handle (counterclockwise) before beginning removal.

  1. 1.1Turn "T" handle counterclockwise to fully loosen.
  2. 1.2Push operating handle to the down position.
  3. 1.2.1Place operating handle in middle position.
  4. 1.3Remove socket head cap screws.
  5. 1.4Pull internal stack assembly out of valve.
  6. 1.4.1Do not allow sealing shoes to rotate about their mounting screws as the internal stack is removed.
  7. 1.4.2Exercise care when pulling dividing plate lip seal past edges of port openings.

Section 2

Internal Stack Disassembly and Seal Replacement

Disassembly Steps

  1. 2.1Fully loosen "T" handle (counterclockwise).
  2. 2.2Push ball handle to the full down position.
  3. 2.3Remove Roll Pin 1 with pin punch.
  4. 2.3.1For 1½", 2", & 3" valves use a 3/16" punch.
  5. 2.3.2For 4", 6", & 8" valves use a 1/4" punch.
  6. 2.4Remove ball handle.
  7. 2.5Slide bonnet with "T" handle off shaft.
  8. 2.5.1Allows access to upper shaft seal.
  9. 2.6Position shaft so that Roll Pin 2 is visible in hole.
  10. 2.6.1Remove pin with appropriate punch.
  11. 2.7Remove shoe/slide link assembly from sleeve.
  12. 2.8Slide upper sleeve off shaft.
  13. 2.8.1Allows access to lower shaft seal.
  14. 2.8.2There is normally no need to remove lower sleeve assembly.

2.9 — Replace O-Ring Seals and Rings

  1. 2.9.1Lubricate all O-rings/seals.
  2. 2.9.2Upper shaft seal O-ring lip faces down.
  3. 2.9.2.1Install Delrin seal retainer.
  4. 2.9.3Lower shaft seal O-ring lip faces up.
  5. 2.9.3.1Install Delrin seal retainer.
  6. 2.9.4Divider plate seal O-ring lip faces up.

2.10 — Remove and Replace Shoes if Necessary

  1. 2.10.1Turn counterclockwise to separate shoe from slide assembly.
  2. 2.10.2Refer to Section 3 for shoe adjustment.

2.11–2.12 — Reassembly

  1. 2.11Reassemble stack on stable surface to ensure proper roll pin replacement.
  2. 2.11.1Ensure there are no gaps between the sleeve assemblies and bonnet and divider plate.
  3. 2.11.2Insert Roll Pin 2 through sleeve/shaft/link assembly.
  4. 2.11.3Replace bonnet assembly and insert Roll Pin 1 through shaft and ball handle.
  5. 2.12Reinstall internal stack into valve body.
  6. 2.12.1Exercise care when pushing dividing plate seal past edges of port openings.

Section 3

Shoe Adjustment Procedure

  1. 3.1Turn new shoe clockwise (tighten) until shoe is tight against the slide. Then turn the shoe counterclockwise to the vertical position (minimal partial turn).
  2. 3.2Turn shoe counterclockwise per the table below to properly align the shaft/shoe assembly.

Changeover Operating Instructions

  1. 1.0Open Equalizing Valve

    1.1 — Allow pressure to equalize.

    1.2 — Due to capacitance effect, larger vessels may require several minutes to balance.

    1.3 — After the off-line vessel or piping is filled, ensure all vents, bleeds, or drain lines are closed so pressure will equalize.

  2. 2.0Loosen T Handle

    Turn the T Handle counterclockwise approximately 6–7 turns.

    DO NOT FORCE PAST STOP
  3. 3.0Unseat Sealing Shoes

    Push ball handle downward to unseat sealing shoes.

  4. 4.0Rotate Ball Handle

    Rotate ball handle 180°.

    4.1 — Red arrow points to OPEN ports.

  5. 5.0Seat Sealing Shoes

    Release the ball handle and turn the T Handle clockwise until sealing shoes are seated.

    HAND TIGHTEN ONLY — 20 IN-LB MAX
  6. 6.0Close Equalizing Valve

    Close equalizing valve.
